History Museum Building


The building was founded in 1652 by the colonial Dutch East Indies in Batavia. Precisely at Pasar Ikan Street, North Jakarta, overlooking the Bay of Jakarta. To the right from the main warehouse was built towers. Now known as Syahbandar Tower was built in 1839 for the entry and exit administrative processes as well as the central control ship oceans and continents around.
During the Dutch occupation of this building was once a warehouse that serves to store, pick and pack the earth, like a spice which is the main commodity of VOCs that are in demand in the European market. This building has two sides, the west side known as Westzijdsche Pakhuizen or Western Warehouse (built in stages beginning in 1652-1771) and the east side, called Oostzijdsche Pakhuizen or East Warehouse. Western warehouse buildings consisting of four units, and three units of which are now used as the Maritime Museum. This building was originally used to store VOC key items in the archipelago, namely spices, coffee, tea, copper, tin, and textiles.



Museum Collections
Maritime Museum is a museum that holds collections relating to the maritime nations Indonesia. Museuam Bahari has many and varied collections. Travelers who visit this kemuseum can see various types of boats from all regions in Indonesia which is equipped with a drawing and photographs of the port in the past.
Among the nautical history of the material on display include the original tradition of Lancang Kuning boat (Riau), Phinisi Bugis Boat (South Sulawesi), Jukung Karere (Irian), VOC ship Batavia miniature, miniature train Dewa Ruci ships, marine life, the photographs and so on. The museum is in addition to the marine cultural information center, educational tour is also a place for new fathers who want to know more about the history of the nation's maritime past.
Lancang means boat. In the past Lancang known species from Sumatra, Jakarta and Kalimantan, Yellow Lancang model collection Maritime Museum is a boat for a cruise to the king and his family. Besides it is used by the district chief, admirals and senior royal to war activities and patrol territories, especially in the Riau archipelago.
